ARCHIVED - Daily cases continue to drop: Murcia Covid update June 17
Despite the drop in infections in the Region, the incidence rate has increased
The Region of Murcia has been following the trend set across Spain for months and this week is no exception, as the 14-day cumulative incidence rate has rebounded slightly. Despite this, the average coronavirus infection rate at 7 days is far lower than 50%, which hopefully shows that June 15’s data was just an unfortunate blip.
On a positive note, hospitalisations, ICU admissions and daily infections have all decreased since the last health update.
Coronavirus infections
The health authorities in the Region of Murcia registered 500 new cases of coronavirus since the last update two days ago, 252 of which were recorded on Wednesday June 16. Daily infections have been gradually dropping and the latest report represents a decrease of 14 cases.
This figure brings the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 432,751, 70,739 of which have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
Despite the decrease in daily infections the 14-day incidence rate has risen to 411.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants since Tuesday. However, Murcia is still well below the Spanish national average, which has also experienced an upturn to 612.39 cases.
Moreover, the average incidence at seven days is still much less than 50% of the 14-day rate, an excellent indication that daily infections will continue to fall.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
There are currently 161 people hospitalised for Covid in Murcia, a significant 22 fewer patients than on Tuesday, while four of these are being treated for more serious conditions in the Region’s ICUs (a decrease of three).
Since the last health data was released, another three people have lost their lives to Covid, which brings the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,334.
Coronavirus testing
The number of coronavirus antigen and PCR tests carried out in the Region has increased to 2,994,076.
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.93% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.67% of people are now double jabbed.
