ARCHIVED - Damp and muggy weekend ahead: Spain weather forecast September 15-18
The tail-end of the Atlantic storm will bring widespread rain to Spain for the next few days
Storm Danielle, which began as a potential hurricane before petering out over the Atlantic, has brought widespread unsettled weather to much of Spain this week and although the front is weakening, Aemet predicts that it will bring rain to almost the entire country over the weekend.
The storm has hit northern Spain particularly hard, but sadly the rain “has not been intense or widespread enough” to bring much relief to the parched reservoirs, according to meteorologist Ruben del Campo, who forecasts “an environment more typical of the time throughout the country” for the next few days.
Following the trend set earlier in the week, Thursday September 15 will be largely cloudy with scattered showers in most of Spain, becoming less frequent further south, where some morning haze is likely. Thunderstorms are forecast in parts of the Valencian Community, where a yellow weather alert is in place from 2pm.
Temperatures will drop in the Canary Islands and Central Spain but remain much the same elsewhere.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Thursday
Alicante: min 19ºC; max 30ºC
Almeria: 20ºC; 27ºC
Malaga: 20ºC; 30ºC
Murcia: 22ºC; 33ºC
Friday September 16 will be a changeable day, alternating between cloudy and clear throughout with occasional stormy showers forecast in much of the southeast in the afternoon.
Daytime temperatures will drop in the north, the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands while the night will be considerably cooler in most of the country, with the exception of the Mediterranean coast and the southeast.
The Balearic Islands and Catalonia are under yellow alert for storms in the afternoon.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Friday
Alicante: min 19ºC; max 28ºC
Almeria: 21ºC; 25ºC
Malaga: 21ºC; 29ºC
Murcia: 23ºC; 33ºC
Moving along to Saturday September 17 another overcast day is on the cards, with a high likelihood of more showers across the country. Daytime temperatures will rise in the north and southwest although the thermometers will drop a couple of degrees in the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Saturday
Alicante: min 20ºC; max 29ºC
Almeria: 20ºC; 29ºC
Malaga: 20ºC; 27ºC
Murcia: 20ºC; 31ºC
Sunday September 18 will begin fairly cloudy along the Mediterranean coast, with the possibility of some weak rain in the Region of Murcia and the Valencian Community. It will remain overcast for most of the day with the occasional clear spell and it’s set to be quite muggy in the north as temperatures rise again.
Elsewhere, the mercury will take another dip further south and in the Canary Islands during the day with the night-time temperatures remaining largely unchanged.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Sunday
Alicante: min 20ºC; max 29ºC
Almeria: 22ºC; 31ºC
Malaga: 21ºC; 26ºC
Murcia: 20ºC; 29ºC
