ARCHIVED - Dead body spotted in the Cabo de Palos Marine Reserve
The corpse was reported floating in the water this morning by a local diving club
The lifeless body of a person was found this Monday morning, October 3, in the waters of Cartagena, specifically in the Cabo de Palos Marine Reserve, according to sources close to the case.
It happened around half past ten in the morning. The warning came from the Islas Hormigas diving club, who said they had seen a body floating about 600 metres from the coast, in an area of high ecological value.
The Salvamar Draco rescue boat was sent out to pick up the corpse, which will now be taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine so that an autopsy can be performed to confirm the exact cause of death.
While the investigation has only just begun, the main hypothesis is that it is the body of a migrant from Northern Africa who died while trying to reach the Spanish coast.
Just over a month ago, nearly a dozen bodies washed up all along the Alicante and Murcia coastline of people who had been in a shipwreck in which only the human trafficking boat captain survived.
