ARCHIVED - Denia amongst top 10 destinations recommended by Spanish influencers
The coastal town in the Marina Alta area of Alicante province rubs shoulders with the likes of Barcelona and Ibiza
For the first time, Denia on the Costa Blanca has made it to the top 10 list of holiday destinations recommended by Spain’s biggest influencers, according to the Peoople online platform.
The app, which has more than 10,000 influencers registered worldwide (3,000 of them Spanish), has analysed their recommendations during the months of June to September, when travel typically increases, and Denia has made ninth place – the only municipality in the Valencia region to feature on the list.
The aim of this year’s annual study, the findings of which were revealed on World Tourism Day 2021, Sunday September 26, was to analyse and compare the recommendations of the last three years to see how they evolved before and during the pandemic.
According to Peoople, before the pandemic, in 2019, the destinations most recommended by influencers were largely international, including London, Paris, New York and Venice.
But these international destinations disappeared with the onset of the pandemic, and Barcelona, followed by Seville and Madrid, topped the ranking as the most recommended in 2020. Lisbon was the only featured destination outside Spain, ranking ninth.
In 2021, however, 100% of the destinations are coastal and domestic. Ibiza, Formentera and Menorca top the list, placing the Balearic Islands as the most recommended region.
The islands are followed by Marbella, which has also made the list for the first time; Santander, which rises from eighth to fifth place; and Barcelona, which remains for the third consecutive year amongst the favorite destinations.
Lanzarote and San Sebastian, are in seventh and eighth place respectively, followed by Denia and Cadiz.
