ARCHIVED - Disabled dogs show life can still be fun on Mazarron dog beach
Even though these dogs have undergone significant trauma, a trip to the beach is still on the cards
Bichosraros.org is an association dedicated to the welfare of disabled animals, and works to ensure that life can still be full and enjoyable even for those who have suffered conditions which limit their mobility.
Every year they choose a Mediterranean beach as their destination for a weekend away, and this year the Las Moreras dog beach in the Puerto de Mazarrón was selected.
Las Moreras beach is the first dog beach in Spain that has been awarded a Q flag for Tourist Quality and this weekend 30 dogs in adapted doggy wheelcahairs spent time on the beach during Friday and Saturday running around and playing, in spite of their limited mobility.
Las Moreras is approximately 500 metres long by 60 metres wide and is located in a semi-urban environment, suitable for walking with pets off the lead at any time of the year. The beach is cleaned daily and specific analysis of parasites is carried out. It also has bins, a water dispenser for pets, signage, parking area and toilet, and is all-round just a perfect location for those who enjoy walking their dog on a beach but are unable to do so due to the restrictions in place on nearly all Spanish beaches.
