ARCHIVED - Dozens fined in Murcia for not wearing masks indoors
In Cartagena and Murcia, no hospitality venues have been sanctioned for exceeding capacity

Local Police in the municipalities of Murcia and Cartagena have filed dozens of complaints against hospitality establishments for allowing their customers to walk around without masks. According to the current Covid safety regulations of the Region of Murcia, masks must be worn at all times inside these establishments, unless customers have food or a drink in front of them.
Police sources have advised that they are not interested in whether bar or restaurant managers have asked customers to don masks, but rather if clients are actually wearing them when they are supposed to. What they found was disappointing, and officers have been forced to issue hefty fines to the people in charge of the premises.
So far in 2022, municipal authorities have filed 66 complaints in Murcia to different entertainment venues for breaching mask-wearing regulations.
Depending on the alert level of the locality, venues in the Region are also subject to capacity restrictions, which can be increased if the establishment chooses to require a Covid passport.
To police this, officers first check the capacity limit of the premises and then ask customers if they were asked for a Covid passport to enter. So far this year, no bars in Murcia have been sanctioned for exceeding capacity.
While no hospitality venues in Cartagena have been fined for breaching Covid passport rules, since December 1 a total of 18 people have been penalised for not wearing a mask inside bars. Of those, five were fined in 2022 and each will have to pay one hundred euros.
