Dramatic videos show cars, babies and dogs almost washed away by Spain flash floods
More heavy rains have caused flooding in Molina de Segura and Lorquí, Murcia
A renewed bout of heavy rain in southern Spain has left more flooding and necessitated more emergency rescues ahead of a very wet and stormy weekend.
Already this week, homes have been flooded in the province of Alicante, people have gone missing in Almería, and roads and schools have had to be shut in Murcia.
Now, it has started up again, with 15 separate rescues carried out by the fire brigade and emergency services on Thursday afternoon, May 25, in central Murcia’s Molina de Segura and surrounding towns.
In just one hour, between 7pm and 8pm, the storms dropped up to 40 litres of rain per square metre, and the ‘rambla’ waterways in Molina overflowed once again.
The Emergency Coordination Centre counted 152 calls that afternoon, most of which were to request the help of the fire brigade to bail out water, but two of which were in relation to several dogs that needed rescuing from a flooded area.
As for the remaining rescues, all of them involved drivers who were caught at the wheel by the rain, and four of these rescues involved help from the helicopter crew.
The Avenida del Chorrico road turned into a veritable river, as did the stretch from Calle San Juan to Calle de la Estación, dragging rubbish bins and cars along with it.

In the neighbouring municipality of Lorquí, the situation was similar, where there was an intense hail storm.
One woman in Molina has gone viral online after a video surfaced of her trying to cross a flooded street with her child in a pushchair.
She tried to make her way to the other side but the force of the current, predictably, made her lose her balance and tipped the pushchair over. The child, around 2 or 3 years old, fell out and could have almost been carried away downstream had it not been for a quick-thinking bystander who swept the child up and carried them to safety.
More rainstorms are forecast in the entire Region of Murcia for this Sunday May 28 and the wet weather will continue well into next week.
