ARCHIVED - Driver arrested for transporting 135 kilos of hashish on the A-7 motorway in south-west Murcia
The French-Moroccan attempted to avoid the Guardia Civil in Puerto Lumbreras and Lorca
A French national of Moroccan origin has been arrested by the La Guardia Civil following the interception of a vehicle which was found to be carrying 135 kilos of hashish on the A-7 motorway in the south-west of the Region of Murcia.
The driver of the black car attempted to evade a police check on the motorway near Puerto Lumbreras, paying no attention to indications that he should stop and continuing at high speed on the north-east-bound carriageway, pursued by traffic police from Vera in the province of Almería. A Lorca patrol car joined the chase while other Guardia units were alerted to the situation, and eventually the driver was located and detained in a restaurant close to the service station of La Torrecilla, in the municipality of Lorca.
Inside the car officers found four packages containing 135 kilos of hashish and the 38-year-old driver faces charges related not only to drug trafficking but also to using false number plates, attempting to avoid detention and other offences. The case has been placed in the hands of the court of Murcia.
