ARCHIVED - Drunk arrested after ramming a police car twice in La Manga del Mar Menor
A man has been arrested for not only being drunk when in charge of a vehicle but also deliberately ramming a police vehicle, not just once, but twice.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, when officers carrying out a routine patrol in the Gran Vía of La Manga del Mar Menor saw a vehicle travelling up Gran Via on the wrong side of the carriageway.
The agents rapidly installed luminous devices across the road in an effort to not only stop the individual concerned, but also to prevent a collision with other vehicles, but instead of stopping, the driver rammed the police vehicle and continued.
The manoeuvre was repeated and the police vehicle was once again rammed, although on this second occasion the vehicle stopped.
The driver, however, continued to resist and initially refused to open the vehicle door.
When he finally did so and was breathalysed, he was found to be five times over the legal alcohol limit.
Unsurprisingly, he was immediately arrested and will now face several charges relating to road safety offences.
