Alicante traffic police arrested the 55-year-old motorist who faces six months in prison
A speeding drunk driver has been arrested in Alicante after a police radar clocked his vehicle travelling at 213 km/h on the AP7 motorway.
The 55-year-old, who exceeded the established speed limit by more than 90km, has been charged with crimes against road safety and driving under the influence of alcohol and faces up to six months in prison.
The events unfolded on Tuesday 18 January, when a Guardia Civil patrol, located on the AP-7 motorway near Alicante, detected a vehicle travelling at high speed, triggering the radar in an area limited to 120 km/h.
The driver was pulled over, identified, and found to be twice the legal limit for alcohol. He tested negative for drugs.
The proceedings have been handed over to the 7th Court of Instruction in Alicante, and in addition to a possible prison sentence, the motorist could lose his driving licence for up to four years.
