ARCHIVED - Easy Care Horse Rescue Centre in Rojales gets much needed cash boost
The town council has donated €6,000 to Easy Care Horse Centre in the Vega Baja, Alicante province.
Easy Care Horse Rescue Centre in Rojales has been given €6,000 to continue the great work it does rescuing and caring for abused and abandoned horses, ponies and donkeys.
British expats Sue and Rod Weeding founded the rescue centre in 2008, and from humble beginnings, now care for more than 122 horses, ponies and donkeys saved from abuse and neglect.
And for the third year running, the couple have received financial aid from the local authority in recognition and support of the work that the centre does.
While the money will help with the care and upkeep of the animals, it's a drop in the ocean to how much money the rescue centre needs to operate on a weekly basis, with the founders having spent more than €1.7 million over the years - cash from their own pockets, donations and fundraising events.
Grateful Sue and Rob said "it's amazing how many people have helped us make a difference with animal welfare, and we will continue to do so in every way we can", adding that it is thanks to the centre's supporters and town halls like Rojales that they are able to do the work they do.
Charities all over Spain have been hit brutally hard by the pandemic, forced to cancel fundraising events and close the shops selling second-hand goods which provide so much revenue for their work.
All donations to any of the privately funded animal charities are very much appreciated.
