ARCHIVED - EasyJet plans to increase flights to Malaga in 2022
Two additional planes are going to be stationed on the Costa del Sol (Andalucía)
The low-cost airline EasyJet has announced that they are going to reinforce their flights to Málaga airport next summer, as two of the four new planes the company has recently bought will be making trips to and from the Costa del Sol.
EasyJet currently have 14 different flight routes connecting Málaga with destinations in Europe and in the UK, and the addition of two more planes to their base in Málaga will mean that five airplanes are going to be based in the Spanish province during the summer of 2022, allowing the company to greatly increase their seasonal traffic.
The announcement comes just after the UK released its new international travel system which scraps the amber list and makes travelling between Spain and England cheaper and easier.
In addition, a representative from the company has named the Costa del Sol as one of the most popular tourist destinations, with 2.5 million passengers travelling to the region in 2019, while the region of Andalucía was the fourth most popular detination for foreign tourists in August 2021.
This expansion also means good news for employees in the air travel sector as around 120 new jobs will be created in both Málaga and Palma. These new employees will join the 400 workers currently employed by EasyJet in Spain.
A second low-cost airline, WizzAir, also recently announced their plan to increase trips between Málaga and the UK, although this company is planning to take advantage of a different gap in the market and has scheduled flights during the winter months.
