ARCHIVED - Coach drivers’ strike hits travellers in North-west Murcia
Minimal services are operational on the routes to Lorca, Calasparra, Caravaca, Pliego and Mula
Employees of the coach companies Líneas Costa Cálida, S.L. and Transportes Periféricos Murcianos, S.A. yesterday began strike action for an indefinite period in protest at the non-payment of their salaries since June.
According to the strikers around 40 workers are owed their pay packets for July, August and September, as well as the extra payments corresponding to the last two summers and last Christmas. As a result each worker is owed an average of more than 5,000 euros.
This is the fourth time that a strike by employees has been called, but the first time that action has actually gone ahead. Trades union UGT confirms that the minimum service levels are being met, and the employees of the two companies staged a protest yesterday morning in the main bus station of Murcia, in the San Andrés district. By means of this action they hope to draw attention to their cause and reach an agreement with their employers.
