ARCHIVED - Elderly driver caught going wrong way down AP-7 in San Javier
The man was disorientated and exhausted when San Javier police intercepted him in the Region of Murcia
Officers from the Policía Local in San Javier have identified an elderly man who drove his car the wrong way down the AP-7 motorway towards Cartagena for several kilometres.
The incident took place at around 4am last Wednesday January 12 and the man was finally intercepted near the Dos Mares shopping centre in San Javier (exit 777 of the AP-7) after several squad cars managed to get the vehicle off the motorway.
Police then saw that the driver was an elderly man who appeared to be exhausted and disorientated. Medical assistance was requested for the driver, who was taken to hospital. Fortunately, no one else was hurt.
The man had reportedly been driving for around 12 hours as he had set off from the Alicante municipality of Elche at 4pm the previous day.
Another elderly driver, a 75-year-old German woman, was also caught on camera driving the wrong way down a motorway in the province of Alicante last week.
