Registration is open now for courses in the UP Cartagena
Each year the network of “Universidad Popular”, which are basically bodies offering adult education in the larger municipalities of the region, open registration for the workshops and courses offered to the public in the coming months.
Courses are varied, ranging from the arts to computer skills, with everything in between, and are reasonably priced.
Although the courses are all in Spanish, participating can be an enriching experience and the Ed. took part in the first esparto-weaving course run by the Cartagena UP two years ago before Covid struck.
Although it was rapidly apparent that she wouldn’t be winning any basket-making prizes in the foreseeable future, and seemed to have fewer fingers than her more dexterous fellow pupils who manipulated bunches of unmanageable grass as though they’d been born with fistfuls of it clutched between their fingers, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and is an entertaining way to learn a new skill and practice conversational Spanish!
This workshop was run by the council of Cartagena in Perín.
Some of the most popular courses are fully-booked within minutes of the booking period opening, but there are spaces on others if anyone would like to join in. Click here for Universidad Popular Cartagena.
