ARCHIVED - Exciting new canyon walkway project under development in Jaen
The route will follow the path of the Eliche river in Los Cañones, Jaén (Andalusia).
A project is underway to create a new hiking route in Los Cañones, Jaén, providing locals and visitors alike with a new signposted and conditioned route through which to explore the countryside and attract visitors to the area.
Located just 10 kilometres from Jaén city, by Puente de la Sierra, Los Cañones is the result of the wear and tear caused by the passage of the Eliche river, which has carved out a striking and narrow canyon over thousands of years. A traditional recreational area for Jaén residents, the canyons are ideal for a refreshing dip in the hot summers and also for activities such as trekking and hiking.
With this in mind, Jaén council has announced that a new project with an 800,000-euro budget will be creating a specific hiking route complete with suspended walkways and bridges to blend into the scenery and provide walkers with a proper trail to follow.
Technicians from the town hall and the Guadalquivir Hydrographic Confederation are currently working on the specifications, and a specialist company will carry out the work, which should be finished by 2022.
