ARCHIVED - Firefighters in Aguilas express concern over lack of staff
The firefighters held a meeting with Águilas mayor this morning to demand action over the “abandonment”
The firefighters of the Águilas fire station met with Mayor Mari Carmen Moreno this morning, Thursday May 26, to express their concern about the precarious situation they are suffering due to – in their own words – “the abandonment to which they are subjected by the Consorcio de Extinción de Incendios de la Comunidad Autónoma de Murcia” (Consortium of Extinguishing Fires of the Autonomous Community of Murcia or CEIS).
This situation, assure the firefighters, is a security problem for Águilas because the fire stations is suffering systematic alterations in the number of staff, and there are even days when the station lacks sufficient staff to cover the day.
For this emergency corps, they have made it clear to the Mayor that the solution would be to “incorporate the necessary personnel into the staff, thus fulfilling the commitment made by the Community”.
Moreno has taken up all the suggestions and complaints from this sector, and has shown her support and commitment to demanding the necessary improvements from the CEIS and the Regional authorities.
The members of the Águilas fire station are not alone, though, as the CEIS has limited funds and has been forced to cut fire services across the whole Murcia Region, leaving many towns in danger just as we approach summer and the wildfire season.
