ARCHIVED - Flooded street in Los Alcázares closed due to serious risk of subsidence
Video footage shows a torrent of water rushing through Calle Julián Romea after underground pipes burst in the Murcia town
Police in Los Alcázares cordoned off a flooded section of Calle Julián Romea on Tuesday night, November 16, due to a serious risk of subsidence after underground water pipes burst.
The road was closed at the intersection between Calle Julián Romea and Calle Jerónimo de Alcalá, and the Local Police quickly posted a warning to local residents on its social media networks.
Advising the public to avoid even passing through the street on foot "due to the serious risk of subsidence", the police urged: "Please drive with caution and avoid this intersection until it is repaired."
Meanwhile, Los Alcázares Mayor, Mario Pérez Cervera, said last night that he had contacted the Mancomunidad de los Canales del Taibilla – an autonomous water supply body attached to the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge – to report the incident.
"I have expressed the town's dissatisfaction and will contact them again for a definitive solution to this problem," he said.
