ARCHIVED - Fortuna police arrest 40 young people at break up of an illegal party
40 people face fines for breaching Covid regulations in the rural Murcia municipality of Fortuna
In the early hours of Sunday morning, August 1, the Guardia Civil of the Region of Murcia and the Local Police of Fortuna were alerted to a large gathering in a rural area of the Murcian municipality of Fortuna.
The Policía Local and officers of the Guardia Civil arrived at the scene in the Peña de la Zafra district at around 4am, where they found around 70 youngsters partying and drinking, without wearing masks or social distancing. In addition, they were flouting the latest Covid safety regulations, which prohibit gatherings of non-cohabiting people between the hours of 2am and 6am; at all other times, social gatherings are limited to a maximum of 10 people from different households.
Police sources reported that, as well as the 70 revellers, about 30 vehicles were parked along the road outside the party, from which loud music could be heard, and that the young people had come from as far away as Alicante. The illegal gathering was advertised through social media, and so far 40 people have been sanctioned for non-compliance with sanitary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The majority of the newly reported infections throughout Spain continue to be in teenagers and young adults who have not been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, and authorities have imposed several measures to try an limit the amount of social gatherings taking place. In the Region of Murcia, along with the curfew on meetings between cohabitants, shops and petrol stations are not permitted to sell alcohol between 10pm and 6am.
