Murcia city council has declared a day of mourning following the drowning of a seven-year-old child who died last week
Four year old child dies from drowning at a beach in the Los Alcázares area of Murcia
Tragedy struck on Saturday, July 17 when a four-year-old boy drowned on a beach in Los Narejos in Los Alcázares in Murcia. Quick thinking bathers rushed to pull the unconscious child from the water and rang the emergency services.
Two ambulance crews and officers from the Los Alcázares Local Police and Guardia Civil immediately rushed to the scene, but despite the attempts of the paramedics to resuscitate the boy, he sadly died a short time later.
Meanwhile, Murcia city council has decreed an official day of mourning on Monday, July 19 in memory of a seven-year-old girl who sadly drowned in the municipal pool in Salabosque on Friday and for another young child who died following a tragic accident in the district of Monteagudo.
The young girl had been hospitalised on Friday but later passed away, so the council announced that the flags on the facade of the Town Hall and La Glorieta will be flown at half-mast today as a sign of solidarity with the grieving families.
Sadly, the high temperatures so far in July have already claimed a number of lives in water-related accidents. At the beginning of the month, two 74-year-old men drowned while bathing off the Murcian coastline on the same day.
