ARCHIVED - Gibraltar to implement Digital Vaccination Record to log Covid vaccine details
The application will be compatible with health passport plans developed by the UK and the EU
Debate continues to rage in most parts of Europe over the pros and cons of implementing a “health passport” scheme in order to facilitate safe travel once the coronavirus pandemic is deemed to be under control and a sufficient proportion of national populations has been vaccinated, and the government of Gibraltar has announced that it is to launch a digital application by which individuals will be able to demonstrate the jabs they have received and tests they have undergone.
The Digital Services team of the Gibraltarian government is already collaborating with the Gibraltar Health Authority to create an app which will provide easy and immediate access to data regarding vaccines and Covid-19 tests, according to a press release issued by the government on Tuesday. A key element of the scheme is to ensure that it is interoperable with other applications developed in the United Kingdom and the European Union, to assist holders in demonstrating their Covid 19 records.
Minister for Health, the Hon Samantha Sacramento, said: “It is important that as we move to the next phase of our fight against COVID-19 we prepare to have our own Covid Vaccine Passport which will be a digital representation of the Cards we have already issued and will verify the persons COVID-19 vaccination history. The important feature which we are working towards will be the interoperability of our service with others to ensure we are able to work internationally with our own.”
