The Emergency Coordination Centre 112 of the Region despatched the Civil Protection of Cartagena and Firefighters of the City of Cartagena but attempts to try to rescue the bather via jet skis had to be aborted due to the erratic swell and intense waves meaning a rescue helicopter from the Directorate General of Public Safety and Emergencies was finally called in.

The helicopter, which was manned with rescuers from the Consortium of Fire Fighting and Rescue of the Region of Murcia (CEIS), lowered a firefighter down to the rocks and they were able to securely and safely evacuate the bather.
112 warned bathers that this area is hard to reach and very dangerous, stating that this incident should serve as a warning to those who decide to venture onto these rocks as the tides and weather can change quickly, and could easily leave bathers stranded.
Yesterday several beaches in this area were flying red flags due to the strong winds, but unfortunately, lifeguards were unable to issue a "common sense" warning!
