ARCHIVED - Historic steam engine placed on Lorca roundabout
The roundabout in Lorca, Murcia, now displays a 1920s train
A historic train which dates back to the early 1920s has been placed on one of the main roundabouts in Lorca, highlighting the municipality’s rich history of locomotives.
The relic has been placed at the ‘Half Moon’ roundabout in the San Cristóbal neighbourhood, located between Avenida Europa and Rafael Maroto.
Dating back to the 1920s and 1930s, the train, a steam engine manufactured in 1923 by the German company Lanz, was historically used for harvesting tasks on Lorca’s agricultural land. Now though, the train has a more ornamental and cultural significance, allowing everyone who passes through Lorca to see the spectacularly restored steam train.
In addition, the Town Hall are also planning to install some projectors to illuminate the train from below, as well as festive Christmas lighting, which will be switched on across the municipality on Saturday December 4.
