19th October, Mula, visit to El Cigarralejo and Villaricos
Visit the Iberian settlement of El Cigarralejo and the Roman villa at Los Villaricos
Many different cultures have left their mark on the town of Mula, among them all of the most significant in the history of the Iberian Peninsula. The Iberians built the settlement of El Cigarralejo, which is considered by archaeologists to be amongst the most important of its kind, and the Muslims erected the town of Mula in its current location. These days the imposing castle bears witness to the wealth of history in the town, as well as serving as a reminder of the power once enjoyed by the family of the Marqueses de los Vélez.
The old town centre was awarded the status of National Historical and Artistic Monument in 1981, and on 19th October there is a chance to learn more about Mula’s fascinating history. The tour starts in the Jardín de Cristóbal Gabarrón, and at 10.00 there is a visit to the Iberian settlement of El Cigarralejo, followed at 12.00 by a trip to the Roman villa of Los Villaricos.
The tour will be rounded off with a hearty aperitif at a venue yet to be decided.
