ARCHIVED - Incidence rate rises another 34 points: Murcia Covid update June 21
The number of people hospitalised for Covid in the Murcia Region has increased worryingly since the last update
With summer just around the corner and thousands of tourists flocking to the Region of Murcia, the coronavirus pandemic refuses to release its grip and infections and hospitalisations have been ebbing and flowing for a number of weeks now.
The trend in the Region is similar to the rest of Spain and since the last health update, all of the numbers have increased.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has registered a total of 1,227 new cases of coronavirus in the last five days, 449 of which were reported on Monday June 20.
A total of 433,978 Covid infections have been recorded in the Region since the beginning of the pandemic, 71,093 of which were diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
Since the last update on Friday, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate has risen 445.66 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, an increase of more than 34 points. However, this is still well below the Spanish national average of 612.39 cases.
A worrying development is that the average incidence of infection over a seven day period now stands at 262.15. Since this is well over 50% of the 14-day figure, there is a strong possibility that infection numbers will continue to rise in the coming days.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
At the moment, 198 people are hospitalised for Covid in Murcia, 37 more than before the weekend. Of these, eight people are being treated in the Region’s ICUs for more serious conditions, an increase of four.
Since the last update, an additional four Covid-related fatalities have been reported, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,338.
Covid testing
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 3,003,761 PCR and antigen tests have been carried out in the Murcia Region.
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.93% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.67% of people are now double jabbed.
