ARCHIVED - Injured Swiss hiker in Alicante mountain rescue
The hiker was rescued 280 metres from the top of a mountain in the Sierra de Callosa del Segura
A Swiss hiker injured his shoulder climbing a mountain in the Sierra de Callosa del Segura prompting a midnight rescue operation.
The man had been hiking with his partner when he hurt his shoulder 280 from the mountain peak in the Vega Baja area on Monday November 22.
His partner immediately called 112 emergency services and a rescue crew from Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium was sent to the scene.
Despite the lack of daylight and the rugged terrain, the wounded hiker was able to walk back to safety, guided by firefighters using a rope technique.
Redován mountain group was also involved in the rescue.
Elsewhere in the Vega Baja, a Russian man fell off a cliff in Torrevieja and was dragged 20 metres out to sea before he managed to swim to rocks from where he was eventually rescued.
