ARCHIVED - Injured walker airlifted from Sierra de Columbares in Murcia
The injured man was taken the Virgen de la Arrixaca in Murcia by helicopter
The May Day holiday weekend was certainly busy for emergency services, who attended a number of calls when members of the public sustained injuries enjoying a weekend in the open-air, amongst which was this incident in the Sierra de Columbares, in the municipality of Murcia.
At 9.46 am on Sunday morning, the victim himself called 112, saying that after falling and injuring his knee he was unable to walk and required assistance.
Fortunately his mobile phone was able to supply the exact co-ordinates of where the accident had occurred, but given the location of the incident a land evacuation was impossible, so the CEIS fire rescue group was mobilized aboard the DGSCE helicopter and evacuated, the injured man, a 45-year-old who was transferred to the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital in Murcia for treatment.
