ARCHIVED - Irish teenager seriously injured in dog attack in Orihuela Costa, Spain
The 18-year-old was viciously set upon by a German Shepherd at an urbanisation in the Vega Baja town, Alicante province
An Irish teenager suffered serious neck and back injuries after being savagely attacked by a German Shepherd on a residential estate in Orihuela Costa.
The horror incident happened at around 7am on Saturday July 30 on Amapolas VI urbanisation in La Zenia.
The 18-year-old woman; it's not clear is she is a resident or holidaymaker, suffered bite wounds to her neck and back, along with injuries to her right ear and cuts and bruises.
Orihuela Local Police were called and identified the owner, whose age and nationality have not been revealed. According to police sources, she has another similar dog.
It transpired that two complaints had already been filed against the woman with the Guardia Civil in Pilar de la Horadada following "dog bite" incidents.
One of these occurred on July 1 when a gardener working on Poppies VI urbanisation was forced to use various tools to protect himself from being attacked by two dogs believed to belong to the woman,
Police in Orihuela have recommended the dogs be removed from the owner as "they pose a danger after multiple attacks".
The woman is under investigation by the Guardia's Seprona unit to determine whether she is fit to care for the animals, which will be examined by a veterinarian.
Last month, an 11-month-old baby was lucky enough to escape a dangerous breed dog attack with a bite wound to the leg after being set upon on a bar terrace in Xàtiva, Valencia.
According to the National Police, the dog - a bull terrier breed classified as dangerous - was with its owner on the same terrace when it managed to get free and lunge at the baby girl, biting her leg.
The baby suffered non-serious injuries and was admitted to the Hospital La Fe de València. Her father and grandfather were also injured trying the pull the dog off the child.
