The Jardín de la Purísima is an open public garden located in the heart of Mazarrón and is a hub of daily life for residents of the town.
Its main function is to provide a green recreational space for daily use. Many of those in the town live in apartments and lack gardens, so as well as substantial planting offering plenty of shade, the gardens also have a play area for children.
There are several shops and hotels around the outside of the square and useful parking in the market square.
The Jardín de la Purísima is also the venue for various public and cultural events, the most popular being as a stopping point for the Romería del Milagro, in which the figure of the Virgen de la Purísima (after whom the park is named) stops here after making her journey from Bolnuevo to Mazarrón.
Following the official reception by the Mayor and Councillors, she continues on to her sanctuary in the Iglesia de la Purísima for the duration of the Fiestas.
