ARCHIVED - Just 13 new Covid cases confirmed in Murcia on Sunday
The vaccination campaign in Murcia has reached over 80 per cent of those in their 70s
The latest coronavirus update published at lunchtime on Monday 3rd May by the regional government of Murcia reports just 13 newly confirmed cases on the previous day and no further fatalities in patients diagnosed as having been infected.
The low figures related to every Sunday are due in large part to fewer tests being performed, but even so it is worth mentioning that during the day 871 PCR tests were carried out, giving an encouragingly low positivity rate of 1.5 per cent. At the same time, Juan José Pedreño, the regional Health minister, points out that no Covid deaths have been reported in the Region for More good news is that in the last 10 days, the only victims in that period having been aged 76, 70 and 52.
There can be no doubt that this is due mainly to the elderly having been prioritized in the on-going vaccination campaign, and the government reports that almost all of those in their 70s have now received at least their first dose.
The 13 cases diagnosed on Sunday included 3 each in Cartagena and Cehegín, and others in the municipalities of Alhama de Murcia, Caravaca de la Cruz, Cieza, Lorca, Molina de Segura, Murcia and Las Torres de Cotillas.
More good news is that over the weekend the number of active cases in Murcia has dropped since last week to 671, and hospital patient numbers have also fallen from 84 to 76. However, 22 of those are now in intensive care, the remaining 595 being isolated at home as symptomatic or presenting only mild symptoms.
