Lesser-known Canary Island to get new UK flights in 2026
Jet2 to launch direct flights to La Palma and offer package holidays in scenic coastal spots

As part of the expansion, the company will also offer holiday packages that include two- to four-star accommodation in some of La Palma’s most picturesque spots, including Puerto Naos, Los Cancajos and Tazacorte.
This marks Jet2’s fifth destination in the Canary Islands, adding to their existing services to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. The company says the move reflects growing demand for quieter, more nature-focused holidays.
Often overlooked in favour of its more famous neighbours, La Palma is known as La Isla Bonita, or The Beautiful Island, and offers a completely different kind of getaway. Rather than big resorts and loud nightlife, visitors come here for hiking trails, natural swimming pools, and some of the clearest night skies in Europe.
The island’s highlights include the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, the lush laurel forest of Cubo de la Galga, and the dramatic Volcano Route. Many of these sites are protected as part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Along the coast, places like Charco Azul and La Fajana offer crystal-clear natural pools for a peaceful swim.
Those keen on water sports can try kayaking into sea caves, including the striking Cueva Bonita, for around €50 per person. Dolphin and whale-watching tours are also popular, led by marine biologists who help spot the island’s rich sea life.
For something a bit different, La Palma has a strong reputation for astrotourism. With almost no light pollution, the island is home to the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, where visitors can take part in evening stargazing tours, often with a glass of wine in hand.
There’s also a cultural side to the island. One of the most iconic events is the Carnaval de los Indianos, held each year on Carnival Monday in Santa Cruz de La Palma. It’s a lively celebration where everyone dresses in white and takes part in a huge talcum powder fight, re-enacting the return of wealthy emigrants from Latin America.
With direct flights and new holiday packages on the way, La Palma may no longer be the Canaries’ best-kept secret - but it’s still one of the most beautiful.
