ARCHIVED - Licence granted for a sixth solar power plant in Cartagena
Three more applications to build solar farms are pending approval by the Town Hall
The Town Hall of Cartagena has issued a licence for a solar power plant to be built in the countryside of Los Pajaritos, to the east of the city between the industrial estate of Los Camachos and La Unión, giving the go-ahead to what will become the sixth such infrastructure within the boundaries of the municipality.
The new plant will generate up to 2.96 Megawatt-peak and its construction is budgeted to require an investment of a little under 1.2 million euros. The project specifies a construction time of one year with work starting before September 2021, meaning that by the end of the summer of 2022 it should be completed.
It is a slow process, but Spain is gradually adapting to the need to prioritize sustainable energy sources – hence the creation of a Ministry for Ecological Transition in the national government – and in Cartagena, apart from the six licences already granted for solar power plants and further three applications are still pending: evaluation of the proposals received is expected to be completed in the next few months.
