ARCHIVED - Light aircraft crashes onto train tracks in Girona, Catalunya
This was the second light aircraft crash in Spain within a few hours
A light aircraft which had departed from the Sabadell aerodrome (Barcelona) crashed onto the tracks of the suburban commuter train at around six in the afternoon on Saturday.
The female pilot was injured, but not seriously, and was treated at the scene of the accident
by members of the Emergency Medical System (EMS).
The cause of the accident is being investigated and as of this moment no further information has been made available about the potential cause of the crash.
Cercanías trains on lines R4 and R12, between Barberà and Sabadell Sud, have been temporarily suspended to enable rail workers to remove the wreckage and inspect the track for damage.
This is the second light aircraft accident to have occurred in Spain this Saturday; during the morning a British national resident of the Murcia region, aged 66, crashed into the sea whilst practising the “loop the loop” manoeuvre off the coastline of Cabo de Palos in the Cartagena municipality.
