Lorca prepares to shine at International Tourist Fair with Holy Week and Casa de Guevara exhibitions
Lorca is set to make a splash at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid from January 22 to 26 at the Ifema Fairgrounds. The city will showcase its diverse tourist offerings, with a special focus on the Casa de Guevara and the internationally renowned Holy Week celebrations.

Lorca's participation in FITUR is a golden opportunity to attract more visitors and position the city as a premier tourist destination within the Region of Murcia and Spain, explained mayor Fulgencio Gil Jódar.

Over the past year, Lorca has shattered tourist records, with hotels reaching 90% occupancy during the long weekend of the Immaculate Conception. International tourists are increasingly drawn to the city, thanks to a robust promotional strategy and a wealth of cultural attractions.

On January 22 at 5pm, Lorca's Holy Week will be showcased at the Murcia Region stand at FITUR. The event will highlight the unique blend of tradition and modern technology, showcasing the silk and gold embroidery of the Passionate Biblical Parades in a dynamic and modern way.

The Casa de Guevara, a monument declared a Site of Cultural Interest, is a standout example of civil Baroque architecture in eastern Spain. Built in the early 18th century, the Casa de Guevara is a living testament to the grandeur of the Baroque era and the cultural and historical significance of Lorca.

On January 24 at 10.45am, the city will present 'Explore, Feel, Live: The Baroque Experience of the Casa de Guevara' at the Murcia stand. This visually engaging and interview-style presentation will take visitors on a tour of the Casa de Guevara, highlighting its rich heritage and cultural value.

“Visitors will be able to see the palace as its last inhabitants left it, from its façade, which resembles an altarpiece, to its gardens, every corner of this monument with the furniture from the ‘Yellow Room’ to the ‘Green Room’, passing through the large pictorial collection and new areas such as the ‘Piece of the Month’ room, where recently restored objects will be exhibited for a certain time, they tell a story that connects the past with the present and that is what we want to show the world,” the mayor explained.

These two iconic attractions have propelled Lorca into the tourism spotlight. Holy Week draws in crowds for its lively parades, while the Casa de Guevara has become the city’s second most-visited site, offering an immersive journey into its baroque heritage.

Mayor Fulgencio Gil emphasised the significance of Lorca’s presence at FITUR as a chance to boost tourism and highlight the city’s diverse appeal. Beyond Holy Week and the Casa de Guevara, Lorca offers pristine beaches, scenic landscapes and a wealth of historical landmarks like Lorca Castle, the Synagogue, the old Collegiate Church of San Patricio, the Plaza de España, the Caliphal Palace and much more.

“Our municipality is one of those that has grown the most in terms of tourism in the Region and that makes us proud, so we will continue working to position Lorca as a reference destination, complete and dynamic, that strengthens our economy and projects the image of Lorca worldwide,” he concluded.
