ARCHIVED - Lorry loaded with pigs overturns in Lorca
The animals were “scattered” across the road, while a fuel leak threatened to cause a fire
A lorry transporting live pigs was involved in an accident at 8am this morning, Wednesday October 5, when it overturned on the road connecting the small village of Zarcilla de Ramos with Lorca, very close to the base of the Municipal Emergency Services.
As a result of the accident, the entire lorry load overturned and the animals were scattered all over the road.
Members of the Emergency Services helped the driver to get out of the cab and when the medical services arrived at the scene the man was dazed, but did not require medical assistance, according to sources from the 112 emergency services.
Firefighters are trying to control a diesel leak from the vehicle to prevent a fire from breaking out.
Local Police and Guardia Civil officers regulated traffic to avoid accidents in the area due to the animals having broken loose. It is not known how many pigs could have been hurt or killed in the incident, but those that can be caught have been put on another lorry.
