ARCHIVED - Malaga man brutally murders wife and burns her body
Fifth case of gender violence in Andalucía this year
A 53-year-old man from Rincón de la Victoria, Málaga, was arrested on Monday (August 2) after being accused of killing his partner and attempting to burn her body in a landfill site in Nerja.
The authorities first received an emergency phone call on Monday afternoon from a concerned resident who had seen one of his neighbours loading what seemed to be a dead body into the boot of his car.
The resident saw a woman on the floor covered with a black t-shirt and, according to the witness, the woman was “cold” and the man alleged that he was taking her to the hospital.
Officers arrived at the scene and found blood stains on the floor where the woman’s body had been seen, they checked the security footage and traced the car’s license plate to a known resident of Rincón de la Victoria.
A few hours later, authorities in Nerja (Málaga) received a call about a corpse, covered in burn marks, in a landfill near Maro.
After tracking down the owner of the car and finding a torch in the backseat, the man confessed to killing his partner, of Russian nationality, and trying to dispose of the body by burning it.
The brutal crime has been the subject of many horrified comments on social media, with the president of Andalucía, issuing an “expression of repulsion” on Twitter.
This is the fifth gender violence crime in Andalucía this year, after a man shot his girlfriend on a public street in the middle of July, and the 29th case in Spain so far in 2021, showing a worrying increase in incidences of men killing their partners.
