ARCHIVED - Mazarron joins recycling competion with other Murcia municipalities
Locals in Mazarron can compete against other Murcia residents to recycle the most glass
The Town Hall in Mazarrón, along with other Town Halls in the Region, has collaborated with the non-profit organisation Ecovidrio to run a recycling campaign in the municipality with the aim of increasing the amount of glass recycled by residents.
The campaign will take place from September 21 to November 30 and involves all 45 municipalities in the Region of Murcia, which will compete to recycle the most glass. The initiative is using the slogan ‘No seas más raro que un perro verde, Recicla Vidrio’ (‘Don’t be stranger than a green dog, recycle glass’).
Ecovidrio hopes that the campaign design will motivate residents in each municipality to compete with one another in order for their hometown to be named as one of the top three recycling municipalities, and, in addition, the Town Halls of these municipalities will receive prizes; igloo-style containers to be used as dog or cat houses.
The igloos, dubbed the first sustainable pet houses, are old containers which have been refurbished and given a second life as refuges for cats and dogs.
A similar initiative organised by Ecovidrio was carried out in the municipality of Villajoyosa in Alicante, in which two domestic sized recycling igloos were given as prizes.
Throughout 2020, Mazarrón recycled a total of 865 tonnes of glass containers were collected from the light green glass bins, which places individual contributions at 26.4 kilograms per inhabitant.
