ARCHIVED - Mazarron lifeguards rescue unconscious man off Playa de la Reya in Mazarrón
A 16 year-old was also pulled unconscious from a municipal swimming pool in Murcia this lunchtime
Lifeguards forming part of the Plan Copla summer support scheme have rescued an unconscious man from the sea off the La Reya beach in Puerto de Mazarrón.
The 1-1-2 emergency services switchboard received notification about the incident at 2:03 p.m. callers reporting that a beach user had seen the man floating in the water and called for lifeguard assistance.
The man was unconscious and in cardiorespiratory arrest, so CPR began as soon as he was pulled onto the beach.
Personnel from the Management and Health Emergencies 061 service were mobilized and stabilized the 51 year-old man at the scene before he was transferred to the “Santa Lucía” hospital in Cartagena for admission to the Intensive Care Unit where his condition is said to be “very serious”.
A 16 year-old bather was also pulled unconscious from the water of a public swimming pool in the La Ñora district of the Murcia municipality this lunchtime and has been taken to the Virgen de la Arrixaca intensive care unit.
