ARCHIVED - Mazarron police preparing canine unit for duty
The Mazarrón police have been training their new canine colleagues for several months
Mazarrón police have published images showing some of the behind-the-scenes work which has been underway to train their new canine colleagues ready to join them in their daily work.
Canine units are springing up all over Spain and are becoming increasingly important in the daily work undertaken by the police, who are frequently confronted with situations in which dogs are a great asset.
Dogs are trained to detect drugs or explosives and assist in search and rescue work, as well as being a valuable companion in routine community work.
The work undertaken also involves training the agents as handlers.
The local police in Mazarrón say that they are very much looking forward to their new companions formally entering the force and joining them in their daily duties.
