ARCHIVED - Mazarrón beaches at the forefront of accessibility
The beaches of Mazarrón run a booking system for accessible bathrooms and bathing chairs for the disabled
After a long delay caused primarily by the coronavirus pandemic, assisted bathing services have returned to the beaches of the Region of Murcia to enable those with limited mobility to enjoy swimming in the sea.
On Monday, August 3, the Mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, was among those presenting a report on accessibility on the beaches of the Region of Murcia at Playa de La Isla in Mazarrón, and revealed that the beaches of Mazarrón are at the forefront of of accessibility points for people with reduced mobility.
To ensure that facilities are available for those who need them, an online appointment system has been set up so that people can book access to the bathrooms and the amphibious chairs, which can be wheeled directly from the beach into the water.
These bathing chairs can be found at three points: Playa de La Isla, Playa del Puerto and Playa de Nares.
Speaking earlier this month, Carmen Gil, the president of Famdif said that things are finally moving in the right direction since “more and more beaches have both this service and the universal accessibility necessary for people with reduced mobility to enjoy independently the Region of Murcia.”
