ARCHIVED - Men burst into Murcia church screaming obscenities at worshippers during mass
Two arrests have been made following the shocking incident at Murcia's San Bartolomé
Stunned worshippers were subjected to a frightening ordeal during Mass at Murcia's San Bartolomé church when two men burst in and began screaming abuse and making obscene gestures.
The National Police have arrested two Estonian men, aged 24 and 27, who have been charged with a crime against freedom of conscience and religious beliefs.
The disturbing incident happened on Sunday August 7 during a regular Mass when the two suspects barged in, shouted insults at the congregation and tried to access whilst making vile hand gestures and bringing the Sunday worship to a standstill.
The police were called and several parishioners told officers from the National Police's Citizen Attention Group that they had been made to feel extremely uncomfortable and "humiliated" by the "lack of respect" shown towards the people gathered in church "to exercise their freedom of worship".
The detainees appeared before Murcia's Investigating Court on guard duty, and were released pending trial.
