ARCHIVED - Minor earthquake off the coast of Torrevieja
The epicentre of the quake was offshore about two kilometres from the town's coastline in the Vega Baja, Alicante province
An earthquake measuring 1.6 on the Richter scale was recorded offshore to the southeast of Torrevieja this morning, Friday December 3.
The tremor occurred at 6.47am, and the epicentre was located two kilometres from the coast, according to the National Geographic Institute (IGN).
The seismic movement is the first confirmed by the IGN in Alicante province since November 16 when a quake was recorded in the municipality of Famorca, and the fifth in Torrevieja since the beginning of the year.
