ARCHIVED - Miracle baby boy born after mother spent nearly a month in a Covid ICU in Valencia
The new mother was diagnosed with bilateral Covid pneumonia in mid-January at the la Fe Hospital
A health baby boy, named Marcus, has been born in La Fe Hospital in Valencia (Valencia region) after his mother spent nearly a month in intensive care with Covid-19 while she was pregnant.
The new mother, named Ianula Antonio, was admitted into hospital with bilateral Covid pneumonia in mid-January this year, when she was 22 weeks pregnant.
After a serious respiratory complication, Ianula had to receive resuscitation services and was transferred to an intensive care unit, where she required external respiratory assistance provided by an ECMO machine (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) for nearly two weeks.
However, despite his mother’s serious health problems, Marcus was born at 37 weeks and was completely healthy. The newborn, who weighed around 2,800 grams at birth, has been nicknamed the ‘miracle’ baby.
Ianula currently has some after-effects from the virus, such as leg pain, but, in general, she and the baby are both in good health.
