ARCHIVED - Most of Spain under weather warnings: December 9
Several orange and yellow alerts have been issued throughout Spain
After a rather unsettled holiday weekend that saw many communities in Spain covered in snow or battered by gales and rain, Aemet has warned that most of the country will be at risk on Thursday December 9 due to costal phenomena, snowfall, rain, wind, avalanches and flooding as a result of ice thaws.
The northern part of the country will once again bear the brunt, with Aragón, Asturias and Cantabria at significant risk. In the Balearic Islands, Ibiza, Formentera and Menorca are under an orange warning for waves and wind, while Mallorca has also been issued with an alert for coastal phenomena and gusts.
In the Valencian Community, all three provinces (Alicante, Valencia and Castellón) have been cautioned about a significant risk of wind.
In general this Thursday, northern areas can expect cloudy skies and scattered rain, with more persistent precipitation forecast in the Pyrenees and Cantabria. An early storm is predicted in the east of the Balearic Islands, while further south, cloudy skies will persist throughout the day.
With the exception of the extreme north, temperatures are not expected to change dramatically, but strong intervals of wind will blow in from the west of northwest, mainly affecting the Cantabrian and Mediterranean coasts.
