ARCHIVED - Murcia City Council donates bikes to people in need
Abandoned and donated bikes in Murcia will be repaired and offered to people in the municipality
The Department of Sustainable Mobility of the Murcia City Council, in conjunction with the Department of the Elderly, Housing and Social Services, has launched a new initiative whereby unused and unwanted bicycles will be restored and offered to those in need. The project, coined ‘2 pedals, 365 dreams’, will be specifically aimed at those facing social isolation so that they can have easier access to the municipality.
Donated and abandoned bikes will be restored by various community groups such as the Columbares Association, the CEPAIM Foundation, the Emmaus Traperos Association and the Fundación Secretariado Gitano.
So far, 39 bicycles have been collected, all of which will be repaired in the coming months and donated to the people who need them the most.
To donate a bicycle you can send an email to 'bicicleta@ayto-murcia.es' or call the telephone number 968 200293 from 9.00 to 14.00 to make an appointment and take the bicycle to the Municipal Office in its premises in Plaza Robert Schumann in the north of the regional capital.
