ARCHIVED - Murcia Covid update August 1: incidence rates numbers at last with 185 new cases
A million people in Murcia have received at least one vaccine dose
During the weekend the number of people in the Region of Murcia to have received at least one dose of the Covid vaccines passed a million, representing around two thirds of the population, and at the same time it appears that the fifth wave of infection may be reaching its peak according to the figures published relating to Saturday and Sunday.
The latest daily bulletin reports a further 185 confirmed cases on Sunday, fewer than a week previously, while the number of Covid patients receiving hospital treatment fell to 148 (including 30 in intensive care). The numbers are still far too high for comfort, but over the weekend the 14-day incidence rate rose by only 15 points to 481 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (the previous weekend saw a rise of 40), while a minimal increase in the 7-day rate leaves it at 239.
With the 7-day rate under half the 14-day rate, it is reasonable to expect that the upward curve in contagion is now flattening out, although it is too early to state this with any certainty.
More good news is that no further Covid-related fatalities were reported on Sunday, and the positivity rate of PCR testing dropped to 7 per cent.
The incidence rates remain the highest in Murcia since mid-February and are almost 10 times as high as when the most recent state of emergency ended in May, but in the latest national Ministry of Health update published last Friday the region still had the second lowest rate in Spain. The worst affected regions are Catalunya, Navarra and the Balearics, with 14-day rates of over 800, and all parts of the country remain well above the “extreme risk” threshold of 250.
