ARCHIVED - Murcia engulfed in sixth wave: Covid update November 26
The Region of Murcia registered 275 cases in the past 24 hours
The number of new Covid cases show no sign of slowing down as the most recent update details 275 new cases in the past 24 hours, after Wednesday’s figure (November 24) broke the 300 threshold for the first time in months (335 in 24 hours).
And some areas in the Region of Murcia are faring worse than others, as Torre Pacheco, Mazarrón and Cartagena continue to register alarming Covid stats.
Active cases
After Thursday’s new cases, the number of active coronavirus cases in the Region has risen to 2,453, of whom 2,376 are in self-isolation at home.
Hospitalisations
Although the figures reported in the Region’s hospitals pale in comparison to the number of new daily cases, hospitalisations are rising slowly and steadily, with a total of 77 Covid patients reported on Friday November 26, of whom 15 are in intensive care.
Fatalities and Recoveries
One further Covid-related death was registered in the Region in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll up to 1,768. On the other hand, 42 people recovered from the virus in the same time frame; 141,614 in total since the beginning of the pandemic.
Vaccines
In the Region of Murcia, 82.08% of the target population has now been double-jabbed, thanks to the over 2 million doses of Covid vaccine that have been administered in the Region (2,278,991).
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate in the Region of Murcia is 187.7 cases per 100,000 on average, but there are some municipalities which surpass this mark by a large number of points, including Torre Pacheco (608.8) and Mazarrón (502,5), which are two of the most densely populated municipalities in the Region. Cartagena, the second largest city after the capital, also surpasses the average by quite a few points (293.8).
Meanwhile, the 7-day incidence is even more alarming at 110.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the latest average in the whole of Spain is 91.71.
