ARCHIVED - Murcia reports 116 more Covid cases but no further fatalities: Update April 13
The increase in infection rates in Murcia remains a very gradual one
Coronavirus incidence rates continue their generalized upward trend in almost all of Spain as a fourth wave of infection threatens the country after the Easter holidays, although in the Region of Murcia the increase continues to be a very gradual one, at least for the time being.
The latest daily update published by the regional health service of Murcia on Tuesday reports a further 116 new confirmed cases, bringing the total since the pandemic began to 109,382. However, the new positives were the result of 3,355 PCR tests, giving a positivity rate of just 3.4 per cent, and in general terms this indicates that although the situation gives cause for concern it is not as serious as it was during the peak of the third wave of contagion in January.
Further positive news is that no new fatalities were added to the Covid death toll in Murcia for the second day in a row, and while the number of active cases rose by 17 to 592 the figures for patients receiving hospital and intensive care treatment remained unchanged at 89 and 30 respectively. The remaining 503 cases are in isolation in their homes.
Of the 116 new cases, 24 were reported in the municipality of Murcia, 20 in Puerto Lumbreras (the only municipality in the Region where residents are currently obliged to remain within the municipal boundaries), 16 in Lorca, 11 in Torre Pacheco, 9 in Cartagena, 6 in Águilas and 3 in San Pedro del Pinatar.
