ARCHIVED - Murcia requests immunity study to determine who will need a third Covid vaccine
The Region has also requested more vaccines in a bid to accelerate the immunization campaign for younger people
On Wednesday, August 4 the regional government of Murcia requested that the Ministry of Health carry out a vaccine immunity study to determine the need for a third dose of coronavirus vaccine and determine who should be prioritised to receive it. Regional ministers also requested more vaccines at the weekly meeting of the Interterritorial Committee of the National Health System, reiterating its commitment to inoculating as many people in the younger age groups as possible before schools start again in September.
Although a definitive national policy on third doses of the Covid jab hasn’t been announced by the Spanish government, it is becoming increasingly likely that an extra jab will be required to strengthen immunity before the end of 2021.
Speaking in a television interview on Wednesday, Diana Morant, the Minister for Science, acknowledged that in all likelihood “we will have to be vaccinated many more times” in the future and the coronavirus pandemic “is not going to leave us”.
