ARCHIVED - New and improved Railway Museum in Aguilas to reopen in early 2023
The newly refurbished and relocated Railway Museum will open its doors in the first quarter of 2023 in a new, larger and more accessible space
The estimated date for the reopening of the Railway Museum in Águilas is in first quarter of 2023, as announced by the town’s Councillor for Culture, Maido Simó, on a visit to the building that will house the refurbished museum.
The Railway museum has been closed for repairs and renovation since it passed into the hands of the Town Council, and now it will be spread across the first floor of the station, in a “new, larger and more accessible space”.
The museum space has been adapted to house the railway exhibits thanks to a grant of 40,000 euros from the Directorate General of Tourism Competitiveness, to which have been added another 7,000 euros of municipal contribution.
The bulk of the work has consisted of improving the accessibility of this space by installing an elevator to improve access for people with reduced mobility, as well as putting in air conditioning and recovering the original wooden coffered ceiling.
Accompanied by the Mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, the Councillor for Tourism, Ginés Desiderio Navarro, and representatives of the Association of Friends of the Railway, Councillor Simó gave a speech thanking the Association for the transfer of all the exhibits that up until now were in the museum located in the basement of the station, as well as their collaboration in the design of the new museum project.
